PSY4046 Applied Psychometrics

PSY4046 Applied Psychometrics

This module covers the application of psychometrics in the workplace and will introduce you to individual factors such as personality and emotional intelligence and how these impact on job performance, motivation and attitudes towards working with others. The focus will be in detail on the scientific measurement of individual differences in the form of the psychometric questionnaires and aspects of psychometrics relating to validity, reliability and standardised processes, such as administration and norm groups. Students will also be introduced to the concept of emotional intelligence and how this interrelates with personality in development and across the lifespan and in particular applied settings, such as the workplace. Some understanding of the problems of measuring personality will be given, along with applications of personality theory; for example how personality relates to the workplace and their career choices.
This module introduces students to the use of psychometrics in applied psychology, specifically the use of psychometrics in career counselling. Student will produce a professional report to a client from a psychometric consultant. Throughout this process the student will play the dual role of consultant and client and examine the application of their personality and emotional intelligence to their own career ambitions.
