"A massive thank you to all of the creative students and staff at Middlesex University London for their efforts in creating this amazing short film for us" (Violent Crime Prevention Board).
"It is well written and acted, with powerful, honest words that will make an impact, especially as they are coming directly from young people. Young people are very intelligent and will generally listen to others who they feel are being genuine - which this film portrays well. Well done to you and your team!" (Colette Allen, Director, Hackney Quest).
"...was touched with how the real life scenarios affected different people i.e. the perspective of the Mum, no Dad at home, the baby's chair etc. These different takes create empathy at all levels" (Courtney Brown, Founder and CE), Father2Father).
“We were more than impressed that the specifications were interpreted to meet and exceed our expectations - the mood, expression, timing were brilliant. The first time that Dr Lawrence and I saw the entire film was the eve of the launch due to the very tight deadline that the commission presented. We were excited and completely 'blown-away' by the way that the students who worked tirelessly through the summer to meet our specification to the minutest detail. [I have] received requests from viewers asking how they can get involved with VCP to support our efforts to prevent young people’s involvement in crime, thus again, achieving above and beyond our expectations…..We endorse the skills and professionalism of all concerned.” (Dr. Angela Herbert MBE)
Background
In June 2018, at the showcasing of a student film as part of the 'No Home For Hate' project, Dr. Neville Lawrence and Dr. Angela Herbert were so impressed with the quality of the students' work that they approached Middlesex University to produce a film for the Violent Crime Prevention Board.
The result - a film made by students from BA animation and BA film - was presented at New Scotland Yard (26 September 2018) and now features on the VCPB website, thus providing a key resource for the community, youth groups and partners.
This project provided the opportunity to partner with the VCPB and to continue work as part of the 'No Home For Hate' project and unite the University with the ethos of VCPB and our collective responsibility. Violent Crime Prevention (VCP) is not an ordinary anti-violence campaign. The VCP aims to provide our communities with a voice, opportunities and role models, in order to inspire success. It is a pivotal and innovative approach in tackling the violent crime plaguing our cities.
