In this session, Usaama Kaweesa, Recruitment Officer for City Year, will cover the work that City Year does as a social action charity to tackle educational inequality in schools across the UK.
The session will focus on the crucial role our full time volunteer mentors play in our schools as tutors, mentors and role models to students from disadvantaged communities. Supporting them to improve their academic attainment, overcome behavioural challenges and boost their attendance and punctuality.
Furthermore, we'll discuss how this role encourages pupils both in and out of the classroom to engage with and enjoy learning, whilst developing the professional skills of the volunteers by way of access to corporate mentors and professional training as part of our Leadership Development Programme.
