Screen Printing Techniques: Monoprinting Textiles Using your screen to create multicoloured hand-painted textures and designs without over saturating your fabrics. This is a really versatile technique that can be used in many different ways! Try:
Creating colour washes and backgrounds to work into
Painting a one-off design or illustration
Test out different brushes/sponges/tools to find interesting marks and finishes
Place your stencil between screen and fabric to add multiple colours to your stencil design
Block out areas of your screen with masking tape or paper
Build up multiple monoprints on top of each other
Try printing on different fabrics, dye or colour the fabric first
Try pulling through the print with different coloured pigments rather than a transparent binder
Universal Binders in addition to your pigments (always mix pigments with a binder) work best and keep the handle of your fabrics softer. Start with these before trying out the other binders as these are more likely to block your screen.
Keep your screens clean and save any left over binders for another print!
