Dr Majeed-Ariss completed her PhD at the University of Leeds in 2011 and has since worked on various post-doctoral research projects. Her research interests focus on sexual violence among vulnerable groups and the psychosocial determinants of health.
Rabiya joined Saint Mary’s SARC, Manchester in 2015. In her time at the centre, Dr Majeed-Ariss’ has developed expertise in the area of sexual assault research through leading various projects in this domain: mental health, learning disabilities, SARC service-user experience, SARC staff experience, child sexual abuse and child sexual exploitation.

Emma Williamson, University of Bristol
Dr. Emma Williamson is a Reader/Associate Professor in Gender Based Violence based in the Centre for Gender and Violence Research at the University of Bristol. She is a co-editor of the Journal of Gender Based Violence. Emma has over 25 years research experience working in the area of gender-based violence which has included research on health, law, social policy, and service interventions. Emma also has a keen interest in research ethics, research integrity, and the impacts of research on researchers and participants, and has published widely on these topics. She is the current Faculty Research Ethics Officer and Chair of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Law Research Ethics Committee.
Tina Skinner, University of Bath
Dr. Tina Skinner, Jade Bloomfield-Utting, Sophie Geoghegan-Fittall and Sapphire Sweetland work together at the University of Bath, Dr. Nicola Roberts (ne Ballantyne) at the University of Sunderland, Dr. Olivia Smith at Loughborough University, and Dr. Helen Taylor at Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. They have undertaken research on police, court, SARC (Sexual Assault Referral Center), IDVA (Independent Domestic Violence Advisors), probation, third sector and/or educational responses to gender-based violence. They are currently co-authoring a book chapter on researcher wellbeing to be published by Edward Elgar.
Miriam Merkova, Head of Services and Survivor Engagement, Welsh Women’s Aid
Miriam has 20 years of experience working in the third sector developing and delivering services for groups that experience marginalisation, such as asylum seekers, women in conflict with the criminal justice system, survivors of domestic abuse and sexual exploitation. As Head of Services and Survivor Engagement in Welsh Women’s Aid, she oversees the delivery of the national Live Fear Free Helpline and engagement with survivors and specialist violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence (VAWDASV) services in Wales in order to amplify their voices to government and policy makers. She has organised seminars and events exploring issues such as child sexual abuse and the economics of abuse, and is interested in bridging research and practice.
Sonia Jalal, Founder of Hull Sisters
Sonia completed her MSc in Social Policy Applied Social Research from University of Hull as well as a MSc in Extension Education and Communication BSC in Agronomy from Pakistan. She has an extensive work experience with women from across the world. She has also worked for United Nations Development Programmes in Pakistan (UNDP). She is a diversity panel member of ITV and has been nominated as one of the most inspiring woman of the year who choose to challenge in pursuit of a better world for women and girls by Women Equality Party. Hull Sisters has also been nominated as a charity of the year 2021-22 by Hymers College Hull and East Riding.
